In Illinois, almost 2 million people live in poverty.
A quarter of people in Chicago are poor.

CJC exists to change that through the stability that comes with a good job.

Give $100, $50, or even $10 today towards:

  • Helping the unemployed find jobs.
  • Moving low-income workers from a survival job into a long-term career.
  • Improving the skills of individuals to find and keep a good job.

We work strategically to bring about long-term change in the lives of our neighbors with the greatest need. Our time-tested approach works to improve services to job-seekers at every level.

  • Training. There is a community of dedicated workforce providers in Illinois who help low-income individuals to improve their skills, find jobs, and advance in growing career pathways. We multiply their impact by providing evidence-based professional development and resources to frontline provider staff doing this work.
  • Research. Through collaboration with the University of Chicago’s Urban Labs and other experienced partners, we are working to find evidence of effective job training interventions that empower people both economically and psychologically.
  • Advocacy. We keep up with the research, learn from other states, and listen to the needs of community based organizations. Then, we turn that knowledge into policy. We fight at the city, county, and state level to make programs more effective, and increase funding that supports the most disadvantaged job seekers.
